Onward to Mexico

Entrepreneur and traveler Saul Rios and Creative Director David Brady got together to review the latest travel journal “Onward to Mexico”.

DB: Your new book Onward to Mexico is great for someone taking a trip there. Do you remember the first time you traveled as a child?

SR: Traveling to Mexico was a family tradition. We visited Mexico at least once a year during the summer up until I was about 15. It was something that I always looked forward to all year not just because of all the family activities and short trips we would take within the region but because of how fun life was while there. I remember in the evening all the kids from the neighborhood would come to play on the street and we had a blast.

DB: Why did you want to make a book about traveling to Mexico?

SR: Mexico is a magical place and I want others to experience Mexico in their own special way. While growing up we primarily traveled to where my parents grew up because of family ties but as I got older, I quickly got hooked on traveling to other states and exploring what those areas offered. With each visit, I expanded my worldview as I aim to become as immersed as possible in any destination.

DB: As a journal, your book encourages the user to record many of their experiences.  Was there a reason you wanted to make this type of book?

SR: I have always enjoyed looking back at my travels and reflecting on the experiences to see record what I learned and what I enjoyed from each place as it helps to put things into perspective. I think it’s important to document travel experiences because it helps one tell our own unique story and really focus on the things that matter to each as traveler.

DB: Do you have a favorite Magical Town in Mexico?

SR: All magical towns are amazing in their own special way but to date I would say that my favorite magical town is Jerez, Zacatecas because of its traditions and its famous county festival that falls during easter season. At the festival you can experience Mexico’s equestrian tradition, regional Mexican music, delicious local cuisine, and community from all the thousands of people that come together from both Mexico and the United States to celebrate this special day. Visiting Jerez on any average day is like stepping back in time through its architecture.

DB: What do you hope your readers get from this book?

SR: I hope that people will be able to use this travel journal and help document their experiences where they can tell their own stories of their travels within Mexico. I want people to live the magic that Mexico offers.

DB: Do you have plans for more books about Mexico?

SR: The plan is to create a book about everything Mexico that can supplement the book.

DB: Do you have a favourite book about Mexico?

SR: While I don’t have a favorite book on Mexico as I enjoy reading them all I will say that I do particularly really enjoy reading books about it’s traditions and regional gastronomy.

DB: What advice would you give to someone wanting to make their first book?

SR: My advice would be to just set your mind on doing it and go after it. It’s important that you seek out a professional design firm that can help you bring your book to life as Brady Book Design did for us.

DB: Where can people find more information about your company and purchase “Onward to Mexico”?

SR: They can visit www.mexicotraveljournal.com for more information on our Mexico travel journal. Or www.onwardtomexico.com for more information on the Onward to Mexico Podcast and overall project. See you all there!
